Psychosocial support
There is a range of different types of psychosocial support that may be provided in the perinatal period. These may include:
- lifestyle advice
- non-directive counselling
- discussing emotional health and wellbeing
- facilitating practical support
- informing the woman of psychosocial support options in her community (e.g. peer support, support groups, playgroups).
The success of these interventions depends on effective woman-centred communication.
