Through the establishment of a National Workforce Training and Development Committee a Training Matrix for Perinatal Mental Health Knowledge & Skills was developed.
The development of the Matrix was informed by the Perinatal Guidelines and aims to guide health care professionals to identify training needs/objectives and to also provide those developing programs with a framework to assist with preparation of courses and curriculum.
Experts from a range of disciplines in perinatal mental health and training/education were represented on the NPDI Workforce Training and Development Committee, including representatives from the Australian General Practice Network, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian Psychological Society, Australian College of Midwives, Australian Association of Maternal and Child Family Health Nurses, perinatal psychiatrists, obstetrician, rural/remote practitioners and consumer and carer representatives. In addition there was representation from the Commonwealth and state and territory governments.
