Perinatal mental health disorders

The incidence of mental health disorders significantly increases for women in the perinatal period.

Derived from the National Perinatal Mental Health Guideline developed by COPE, the following sections provide information for health professionals surrounding perinatal anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and puerperal psychosis.

For each of these disorders the information outlines:

  • common signs and symptoms
  • how to assess a woman for these symptoms
  • management of the disorder
  • key things to remember in the assessment, treatment and management of these conditions.
